My name is Katie and I'm a professional flutist based in San Diego. I love teaching, I love writing, and I love playing my instrument - and what better way to combine these three passions than by starting a blog related to all things flute?
The purpose of this blog is threefold:
1. To de-mystify the process of practicing by offering helpful, flute-specific advice to my students and anyone interested in playing the flute
2. To share my perspective on a diverse range of musicianship topics, from writing a studio policy to planning a recital to orchestral etiquette
3. To offer my students and fellow musicians an honest glimpse into my professional career as a flutist and teacher, hopefully encouraging and inspiring them along the way.
A little more about me:
I still have the first flute I ever owned: a nickel-plated Yamaha, which got me through middle school band and high school marching band.
My favorite orchestral excerpt is the bird from "Peter & the Wolf" by Prokofiev.
I would love to someday play the entirety of The Nutcracker Ballet by Tchaikovsky.
I lived in Scotland for two years (no, I cannot re-create the accent).
I love tea, especially English breakfast and white jasmine.
I absolutely love the Grand Canyon and would visit every year if I could.
A few of my favs: book - Jane Eyre, color - yellow, cake - carrot
I have a beautiful 5-year-old Nebelung cat named Gian Francesco Malipiero.
I love anything written by C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Tim Keller.
Thanks for stopping by! I am excited to start this journey with you.
